Laz Moj is a Gel da'Thae scribe who studied dweomer together with Faharn as apprentices to the (corrupt) dweomermaster Hazdrubal. In this life he is to make amends for his misuse of dweomer in his former life of Alastyr. When he was still studying dweomer his town got attacked by Horsekin, Laz and Faharn fled to the forests to live as outlaws, they stole and plundered to survive. Laz used to be in love with one of the slaves of his Mach Fallach (clan), Sidro, the two of them conceived a son who died early in his life. Sidro later became a priestess of Alshandra, after she was demoted to being a travelling priestess by a trick played by Salamander, she met up with Laz again. Meanwhile Salamander acquired a black obsidian pyramid crystal which used to lay in the temple Sidro worshipped at. Laz stole the crystal and together with its clear white counterpart got transported to Hean Marn. In this process he badly burned his hands (maiming them for life) and temporarily lost his dweomergift. On Hean Marn he started teaching Mara the beginnings of the dweomerroad and found the white dragonbook left there by Evandar. After Dallandra and Valendario transported Hean Marn back from Alban, Laz regained his dweomer and rejoined his warband which had split up between Faharn and Pir. When he found out that Sidro had left him for Pir, he rode with Faharn to reclaim Sidro who had joined up with the Daralantariels alar. There Sidro abandoned him again. Laz wanted to win her over so In order to impress her he decided to reclaim the dragonbook which got lost along the way. In doing so he discovered how perversed a previous life he'd lived and that he needed to make amends for it. While recovering the Dragon book, faharn died leaving Laz all alone to return the book to Hean Marn. When he was in Hean Marn he learned from Dallandra that Sidro was with Pir's child. In a desperate emotional attempt to fly of he flew into the aura of Hean Marn in ravenshape which destroyed his "human/Gel da'Thae" etheric double meaning he was forever trapped in ravenform. He remained on Hean Marn for the rest of his life, alone, living in Avain's tower, making amends for his mistakes.
